Do Ads Work on Social Network?

This question suddenly pops up in my mind as I keep questioning whether ads on social network really work... Well, I know some brands that use social media have been successfully win the heart of many people and when I search around, there was one industry-sponsored study that found 22% of consumers had a positive attitude towards social media marketing but how bout the rest of them? do they find social media marketing (advertising) annoying?

Sometimes, I personally find ads on social media are just too much (annoying) for instance when I click some extremely popular videos that haven been watched millions of times on YouTube and there will be a 15secs ad on it.

How about you guys, how do you find ads on social media?

  1. They do get a little annoying, but its one of those things that we will have to get used too. The more SM sites available, the more they are going to look for ways to commercialise them. At least with SM the ads tend to be relevant, which takes away some of the annoyance.

  2. I'm in the middle on this one - I don't find the ads annoying but I don't find them effective either. It comes back the idea of word of mouth and recommendations being the true gold of social media marketing. Ads will end up being just like the ads on tv, something we learn to put up with or block out altogether.

  3. I'm starting to see more and more sponsored ads that ask me to like what my friends like e.g. 'Spring Carnival Racing', which I'm prone to go, okay [like]
